2015 Favourites: Top Six Albums
19:00It has been another wonderful year for new music as well as previous albums making a return. For this instalment of 2015 favourites, I will be sharing my favourite albums from throughout the year. Like last year, I found this really difficult but have finally come up with my top six albums from the year. These albums are ones that I have loved throughout the year (or since their release) and therefore albums release in the past few weeks can't fall into this category - I have also decided that the albums chosen do not have to be released this year.
Artist: Don Broco Album Title: Automatic Genre: Rock Release Date: 7 August 2015 Buy It: iTunes Deluxe | Amazon |
In sixth place is Don Broco's second album, Automatic, which was released at the beginning of August this year. It's an album that I feel really took the band to a whole new level and an album that made my love for the band grow. Automatic is packed with funky rock songs that if they don't make you sing along, will definitely make you want to move about instead!
My absolute favourite tracks on the album are Fire and Tough On You. Fire is a track that I feel sums up the album with its rock and funk elements as well as the ability it has to make you want to sing along with it. It has the raw sound I love as well as being upbeat from the start. Tough On You has a much slower beginning to Fire, however it quickly builds up the tempo and kicks in properly. The verses maintain the slower tempo with the chorus having it increased, providing a lovely contrast between the two different sections of the song.

Artist: Rudimental Album Title: We The Generation Genre: Dance Release Date: 2 October 2015 Buy It: iTunes Deluxe | Amazon |
In fifth place is Rudimental's second album, We The Generation, which was released at the beginning of October this year. The album takes Rudimental's sound to a whole new level, making it sound very different to their debut album, Home. However, there are a few tracks that maintain the sound we had previously become used to such as Too Cool.
My favourite tracks on We The Generation are All That Love and Run - both tracks are only available on the deluxe edition. All That Love features the vocal of Anne-Marie, who I have expressed a love for previously. The track begins slowly but builds up the tempo and suspense as it progresses. All That Love is slower in comparison to other tracks on the album, enabling the listener to really hear the lyrics as well providing a respite from the fast pace of other tracks. One of those tracks being Run, featuring the vocal of Will Heard. Similar to All That Love, it starts slow and builds up the pace but in this case, at a much faster rate making the track more focused on the instrumental as opposed to the vocal itself.

Artist: PVRIS Album Title: White Noise Genre: Rock Release Date: 31 October 2014 Buy It: iTunes | Amazon |
Returning for another year in my favourite albums is PVRIS' debut album White Noise, which I have continued to love throughout this year as well as last, released at the end of October last year. The album is different to their original EP but despite this, the band has rose with the success of White Noise.
My favourite tracks on the album are still St.Patrick and Mirrors, with the addition of Fire. St.Patrick was the first song I ever heard by PVRIS so in that retrospect is special to me for that reason. I particularly like this track because of the relate-ability to the audience as well as how easy it is to sing along to. Mirrors and Fire on the other hand are more full on in comparison to St.Patrick which focuses more on the synth side. Both tracks focus more on the rock element, more specifically with the raw layering of sounds that appeal to me an awful lot - both are also easy to sing along to and exceptional live!
My continued love for this album is what has awarded itself fourth place in my favourites for this year.

Artist: Years & Years Album Title: Communion Genre: Electronic Pop Release Date: 10 July 2015 Buy It: iTunes | Amazon |
Into the top three! Third place goes to Years & Years with their debut album Communion released in July this year. Originally I was skeptical about the band but having heard King and later Shine, I very quickly understood the hype around Years & Years.
I find the way in which Communion is put together brilliant as well as its ability to flow seamlessly into the next track despite not being mixed together. Foundation begins the album with quite a slow pace as well being quite stripped regards to layering of sounds, before Real picks up the tempo but not by much.
My favourite tracks on Communion are Ties and Desire - honourable mention goes to Border. Ties I feel is one of the most lively tracks off the album despite not being like it throughout the entire song. I really like how the song is put together as well as flowing into each section seamlessly. Ties is a really uplifting song for me as well as making me want to move about and sing along - it was also an instant favourite for me when I first heard their album. Desire builds up as the song progresses, particularly with the layering of various synths which I especially like. Similar to the rest of the album, Desire is so easy to sing along to as well as making me want to move.

Artist: Bring Me The Horizon Album Title: That's The Spirit Genre: Rock Release Date: 11 September 2015 Buy It: iTunes | Amazon |
In second place, by a very narrow margin, is Bring Me The Horizon's fifth album That's The Spirit released in September this year. The album is much lighter than their previous material but is one that has left quite an impact, making it the first album I have ever awarded ten to in my album reviews!
My favourite tracks on the album are Throne and Avalanche.
As soon as Throne begins it gets into the swing of things with a combination of synths, strings and raw sounding guitars. For me, the track is perfectly constructed with rise and fall in the right places building up tension as well as calming to allow the listen to hear Oli's vocal more clearly - more specifically in the bridge. I also really like the video for the song. Avalanche kicks in straight away hooking the listener before slowing to enable the audience to hear Oli's vocal. The track maintains a raw sound throughout as well as combining it with very subtle synths. Avalanche is also the track that has my favourite lyric in; I need a cure for me 'cause the square doesn't fit the circle.

Artist: Ella Eyre Album Title: Feline Genre: Pop Release Date: 28 August 2015 Buy It: iTunes | Amazon |
My number one album of 2015 goes to Ella Eyre with her debut album Feline, released in August 2015. I've often expressed my love for Ella's music so it probably won't come as a shock to some of you that her album is my favourite of the year. I love every track on Feline, all showing variation in Ella's vocal and different styles to what she is typically associated with being Rudimental's Waiting All Night and DJ Fresh's Gravity.
My absolute favourites of the album are Good Times and Always - honourable mentions also go to Don't Follow Me and Worry About Me (no studio version available on YouTube at the time of writing. Good Times was co-produced with Sigma, making the track dance and sticking to what we as an audience already are familiar with with Ella's music. As you'd expect, the track is upbeat particularly in the chorus and slower through the verses, enabling the listener to properly hear Ella's vocal and lyrics. For me it is such a feel good track and never fails to put me in a good mood.
Always is a track I particularly like because of the lyrics in that I feel a lot of people can relate to it. Aside from that, it is also upbeat and focuses on the dance element that we are familiar with. I also find Always incredibly easy to sing along to as well as also putting me in a good mood. The light nature of the production makes the lyrics of what can be of quite a sad topic seem much lighter and not as daunting.
I have not written a full review of Feline yet but I hope to in the New Year!
